Qikz - Short Videos

Problem Statement

Short videos are largely consumed by users with the launch of apps like TikTok and app features like shorts and reels. The requirement is a similar platform exclusively for Mathrubhumi.com videos with easy swipe gesture controls to navigate across videos.

Role

As a UX designer, I handled UX/UI design, defined color, typography, and interaction for this app, and produced the flow/interaction, wireframes, prototyping, design mockups, design assets, and guidelines. I worked with a UI Designer, 2 Front-end Developers, 2 Back-end Developers, and QA Team. I created a loader animation and designed the logo for the platform named Qikz.

Bringing additional swipe across gestures in the navigation for users to watch the full video was an addition to the gestures that users are already used-to.

Loader Animation

I have added life to the design by adding a loader animation for the initial load. This maintains brand consistency. This was created using Adobe AfterEffects and Adobe Photoshop.

Closing Note

Following the current trend of short video apps (eg: youtube shorts) has helped me cut the reasearch part. Nevertheless, working with the development team was a good learning experience. I was able to deliver a good user experience keeping the UI minimal and navigation discrete.
